Kalinga English Medium School (Established in 1998)

Main development mantra of Achyuta Samanta is education, and it has been fully realized in Kalarabank. A person can make his future bright if he or she has received appropriate and quality education. Because of this thinking of Achyuta Samanta, Kalarabank High School was established to help the children of the village and other villages of Manpur Panchayat to join mainstream society through quality and value based education. This school has been consistently recording cent percent result in Matric Board Examination every year - compared to the State average of about 70% - due to good coordination and cooperation among the students, teachers and guardians. The School, established in 1998, has student strength of 600 and teaching facility from Class 6 to 10. Past students of the School are well established and many are working as software engineers in USA.

Kalinga English Medium School

Kalinga English Medium School has been established in response to desires of many people of Kalarabank and other villages of Manpur Panchayat to educate their children in English medium. Initiative for this School was taken by Antarjyami Samanta, Chairman, Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT). Students have brought laurels to the School and region by winning various district level and state level competitions from time to time. This has been possible due to quality education and good ambience provided here. The School, established in 2007, is affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi and has student strength of 1000.

PUBLIC LIBRARY & READING ROOM (Nilimarani library)

Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT) has set up a public library in the name and style Nilimarani Library and Reading Room. It is an indispensable learning resource centre for scholars and general public of the village alike. The library has an impressive collection of text books, reference books, journals and magazines, etc.

Entire village is covered under CCTV Surveillance System, installed by Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT). Multiple CCTV cameras enhance security environment in the village by scanning all activities round the clock. CCTV Surveillance System is connected to KIIT Centre.

In an effort to make Kalarabank a solar village, sustainable solar power solutions are being increasingly adopted in the village. A Solar Power Plant, set up by Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT) supplies power to most public institutions in the village.

self help group (shg)

Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT) has initiated a Women Self Help Group (SHG) in the village. Members of the SHG make small regular saving contribution. The SHG is promoting village and household enterprise by lending funds to members interested to set up such enterprises. Meeting of the SHG are held regularly and records of all financial transactions are kept meticulously.

Tap Drinking Water Project

Contaminated water is the cause of many diseases. Therefore, Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT) initiated Tap Drinking Water Project with support of the Govt. Now clean tap drinking water is supplied to each household of Kalarabank village. The project has brought down incidence of water borne diseases, which were widespread earlier.

Metalled Road

Communication receives a high priority after education and health. All facilities are meaningless if communication links are poor. For this, Kalarabank has been connected to the main road by a metalled all weather road. The main road has been constructed with the support of the Govt. under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Besides, all lanes and by-lanes inside the village have been made pucca by Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT). People can easily come to the school and health centre because of this road.

Canara Bank, Locker & ATM

Role of banks is indispensible in public life. A branch of Canara Bank has been opened in Kalarabank village for their financial inclusion and to extend them various advances like agriculture loan and home loan. As a result people are able to save their surplus money as well as avail various loans.

Post Office with Pincode

Post Office assumes a high importance in villages for maintaining communication as people do not have access to modern means like internet. In view of this, a Post Office is functioning in Kalarabank village. Post Office in the village was established in the village by the Govt. following initiative by Late Purnanand Samanta, father of Nilimarani Samanta. Through this Post Office, people of the village are able to maintain contact with their family members working in far off cities. Further, youths of the village get various services relating to higher education and employment here.

Police Outpost

Law and order is maintained by a Police Outpost, established by Govt. in the village in 2008. The Govt. sanctioned the Police Outpost after persistent persuasion by Achyuta Samanta.

community hall (gramya samiti)

All the households of the village are members of Gramya Samiti (Village Committee), which has been formed at the initiative of Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT). Gramya Samiti meets reqularly to take decisions on village level developmental matters. It also plays an important role in resolution of disputes amicably among individuals and households. The Samiti ensures participation of all in the decision making process and contributes to unity in the village. Gramya Samiti functions out of a Community Hall constructed by NMCT for the purpose.

Kalarabank Youth Club is a forum where young people of the village meet and participate in socially constructive activities. Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT) initiated the club to channelise youth energy in village development works. The Youth Club, which functions from its own club building, also organises various sports events and religious activities.

women committee meeting hall (mahila samiti)

In order to give equal importance to women's perspective in development of the village, a Mahila Samiti (Women's Committee) has been formed by Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT). Female representatives from all households are its members. Kalarabank Mahila Samiti meets regularly and takes important decisions on matters relating to women, and also on general matters of village development.

A Public Park, developed in the village by Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT), provides recreational opportunities to the people of the area. A Children's Park has also been developed.

Sree Raghunath Jew and Sankatmochan Hanuman Temple

Spiritualism is an important aspect of life. Village tradition, custom, ritual and methods together make village life complete. Sree Sree Raghunath Jew and Sankatmochan Hanuman Temples have been consecrated by farsighted Achyuta Samanta for smooth observance of various festivals and celebrations.

Nilimarani Memorial Charitable Trust (NMCT) renovated the temple of Bata Tola, the reigning deity of the village. Temples of Maa Kali, Maa Durga, Maa Lakshmi and Lord Kartikeswar have also been consecrated. These are the deities people of the village have been worshipping since the inception of the village. Various festivals during different times of the year beginning with Ganesh Puja and including Durga Puja, Ravana Podi, Kali Puja and others are observed with piety to keep the people on the path of spiritualism. All temples in the village are managed and maintained by KIIT Temple Trust, which has appointed priests and servitors.

KALARABANK, THE WI-FI VILLAGE

Wi-Fi hotspots let villagers access local intranet via a language-independent mobile app to view their consumption, pay bills and register complaints. All the citizen services through digital APPs is accessible through smart phone connected through Wi-Fi facility. Internet can be accessed through laptops, tabs and other hand held devices. News, weather report and disaster related information is immediately accessible.

KIMS Rural Health Centre with telemedicine facility

KIMS Rural Health Centre with Telemedicine Facility has been established in Kalarabank to provide healthcare services to the people of the village and nearby villages. The Centre has been set up by Bhubaneswar's Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), a unit of KIIT founded by Achyuta Samanta. The Centre, which has been named as Anadi Samanta Memorial Hospital after the late father of Achyuta Samanta, has telemedicine links with KIMS, which allows people of the area to avail expert consultation from eminent doctors of the super-speciality hospital at their doorstep. It also regularly conducts health camps in the village. Local people have benefitted immensely due to healthcare facility and awareness by the100-bedded primary health centre. Kalarabank is the first village in Odisha and only the second in the country where the entire population is covered
under health insurance.
